Shoot the moon option
One twist we sometimes do is allow one team to "shoot the moon" or call that they will make a perfect hand (all the points but not necessarily all the tricks) PRIOR to the hand being dealt. If they do then they win the game. This is usually called as a last ditch before their opponents go out.

It has been a long time since anyone commented on this option, but I would like to add that we have always played with the shoot the moon as an option. The bid is made during regular, bidding round before seeing the kitty, and it is worth 500 points every time, plus or minus. Winning score is 500 points. Players are limited to no more than three shoot the moon bids in a row to prevent anyone from continually shooting the Moon in order to get out of the hole or win the game.

We play you can shoot the moon after seeing the nest. Point value is double normal, + or - depending on if you take all points. You do not have to take all tricks

I agree that there should be a shoot the moon option... However, it appears there are several variations, which could be options... The biggest one I see is that some people want shoot the moon available only BEFORE seeing the blind (kitty) others play that you can shoot the moon AFTER seeing the blind. Both should be options... I've always played that shoot the moon means that you have to take all the points, but not necessarily all the points (however, this is a small distinction since I've rarely seen a time when someone fulfills the requirement without taking all the tricks.

I play a total of 200 points per hand, and when someone takes the bid and believes they can take all the tricks after looking at the kitty (nest) then discarding and before calling trump they can declare a 200 hand (perfect hand). If it is successful then they get bonus 200 points for a total of 400 points, however if they lose then they go negative 400 points. Very excited, especially if you get to call your partner card and call yourself and be selfish. Love the Game.

Make it an option while bidding.

We've always played double points if you make it and double points to set you back no matter the score. Only local variation is if you pull every trick or lose a trick as long as it doesn't contain a point card

We've always played with that rule too and I would like to see it included. We only allowed the win if the bidding team was in a positive score. You never feel out of a game. Even if it's 485 to 15 you still have hope

Putting my remaining votes here with the following comment: allow 'shooting the moon' for +/- 500 points depending on success or failure of catching all hands. The game should go to 500 points (or provide an option for setting the winning point total).

Most shot the moon worked in 500 point game. In truth the concept should only be worth 250 points. And you must take all tricks.

I like this idea but there should definitely be a way to customize. We play shoot the moon - all points - worth 200 or 300 depending on if you call it before or after dealing or back to zero no matter how negative. Also double shoot the moon - all tricks - to win the game.

I've always played shooting the moon is worth double all the points possible...

When we play, shoot the moon is worth 300. So, allowing the app to assign point value options would make since.

We use this rule for our games... To "shoot the moon" you declare at Bid time before seeing the nest. If you declare this, you are the bid winner and you get the nest. If you and your partner catch every trick, you either go to zero points if your score is currently negative(no matter how low), or you win the game if your score is positive. Technically, we play to 500, so you get 500 points. If you don't make it, you go minus 500 points. Examples: Assume the game is to 500 points. (ex. A)if you have -250 points and "shoot the moon" succesfully, your score is now zero (0). If you fail, your score is -750. (ex. B)if you have -750 points and you succeed, your score is now zero. If you fail, -1250. (ex. C)if you have 250 points and you succed, your score is 750 and you win the game. If you fail, your score is now -250.
The rule could take the value of points it takes to win the game as the reward/deduction.
