    We play if you take the bid, you can ask your partner to name trumps after you’ve seen the kitty and before you discard. However, once this option is chosen, you are required to go with whatever your partner chooses. Of course, no table talk is allowed that would influence bidding or playing.

    It has been a long time since anyone commented on this option, but I would like to add that we have always played with the shoot the moon as an option. The bid is made during regular, bidding round before seeing the kitty, and it is worth 500 points every time, plus or minus. Winning score is 500 points. Players are limited to no more than three shoot the moon bids in a row to prevent anyone from continually shooting the Moon in order to get out of the hole or win the game.
